Question:
What do FTP access, FTP account and FTP program mean?
Answer:
FTP access is access to the storage space (FTP account) the web pages are stored on so they can be shown on the Internet. The web pages are stored as files in an FTP account, which you can access via an FTP program. The FTP account is located on a web server.
Question:
We can’t access our FTP account. What’s wrong?
Answer:
Your account information contains three pieces of information that are all equally important to a functioning FTP account (note that these should be entered exactly, with upper and lower case letters as given).
- FTP address (host address): see your account information
- Correct account name (user ID) and password.
- Also make sure that you’re properly connected to the Internet.
Question:
I set up files in my FTP account, but the web pages aren’t shown on the Internet. What’s wrong?
Answer:
Make sure you placed your files in the website directory. It’s usually called "www", "public_html" or "wwwpub". You must also make sure that your index file, i.e. the file that is loaded first, has a correct name. This is usually "index.html", "index.htm", "index.shtml", "index.php3" or "index.php" in a Linux web hotel. Windows web hotels usually use "default.htm", "default.asp", "index.htm" eller "index.html".
