It’s common for persons who send spam to use arbitrary email addresses as senders. Unfortunately, it’s easy for your email address to end up in the wrong hands and be used by spammers. By checking the header of the email message, the recipient can see the server the message went through. Often, the server is completely unknown to you, which indicates that the message came from a spammer and not from you.
